The Wedding of Travis and Jan

Bill and Sarah arrived with Tee and walked down the long aisle of the Old English Church and sat on the first pew. An organist was playing a melody of songs and the old church smelled of incense and the white lilies and roses that adorned the altar. The candles were lit it was a peaceful serene setting.

Sarah turned seeing Jan’s father and his young bride slide into the pew across from them. Honestly she thought the girl was younger than his daughter. Behind them and elderly couple came quietly in smiling across at Sarah and Bill. These were her grandparents from her mother’s side. A tap on his shoulder brought Bill’s head around; it was his brother and his wife. Tee was impressed with the huge old church and kept pointing out the stained windows to his Grandpa.

There were no attendants Jan and Travis wanted it as simple and elegant and as sophisticated as the two being married.

The limo pulled up the drive to the church followed by Kyle who discreetly parked and went inside the door. After Travis and Jan came in he would find a seat and watch the ceremony. He smiled seeing the two of them as they got out of the limo.

Instead of a bouquet Jan had a wrist corsage of white roses and baby’s breath and Travis had a white rose bud pinned to his lapel. They looked at each other smiling and entered the church. They hesitated inside the door for a moment until the organist began Ode de Joy and walked up the aisle hand in hand.

Prayers were said, the vows were taken, a circle of diamonds slipped on her finger, a circle of white gold on his and Travis kissed his bride and turned facing their now joined families. Mr. and Mrs. Travis McGee were presented.

Jan’s dress was by Valentino and Sarah admired it when they waited to kiss and shake hands. She took a deep breath…this was her daughter now…this was the woman that loved and was loved by her son. She came to Travis first and kissed him.

"I’m happy for you Travis," she said quietly

"Are you Mum," he lifted his chin not quite sure of her.

"Yes…I’m sorry for the things I’ve said and done," she had tears in her eyes and Travis hugged her.

"I love you Mum, I always will."

She came to Jan next and hugged her too, "I’m sorry Jan for the things I’ve said. Travis loves you and so will I."

Jan was a little startled and looked her in the eyes, "thank you Sarah, I love him too."

"I know you do dear." Sarah moved on taking Bill’s arm.

"Tee," Travis said and shook his hand.

"Congratulations Uncle Travis," he said and Travis hugged him quickly.

Tee stuck out his hand to shake Jan’s and Travis told him he was supposed to kiss the bride. Tee blushed and Jan saved him the trouble by kissing him on the cheek along with a hug.

After the ceremony and congratulations were completed they all climbed into the limo and drove to Sydney Harbor where a meal awaited them atop the hotel on the waterfront. Everything had gone perfectly so far. Jan knew there would be a photographer at the restaurant and a columnist from the Sydney Herald whom she had granted an exclusive interview. She reminded the folks in the limo that this would be the case, it had to be done otherwise the church would have been crawling with photographers and news hounds.

After posing for the required pictures they settled around a large round table for the meal. Jan had noticed all evening Travis’s touching her arm, her waist, the middle of her back and now at the table his hand on her knee.

"Are you looking forward to tonight?" she whispered

Travis looked at her, "yes."

"Even after spending all that time in bed this week?" she asked sweetly

"There’s never too much time with you Jan," he said and kissed her hand. "we’ll have that honeymoon I promise."

"I’m not worried about it…life with you will be a honeymoon."

"I’m not sure about that," he laughed, "might be pretty bumpy…nah as soon as we get Tee settled in school and things on track at the station…you and I are hitting the tropics."

"I love you Travis," she said looking into his eyes.

Travis kissed her deeply to the shouts of "get a room," from his Dad and her Grandfather.

After the meal was finished the wedding cake was brought out and Travis and Jan did their bit cutting the cake and feeding each other a piece, Jan made sure there was no frosting left on Travis’s fingers…did she detect a slight blush?

Her Grandfather made the toast with champagne which had been flowing freely since they sat down.

"I would like to wish the bride and groom a long and happy union. May your love grow from this day ever blooming, ever fresh and may you increase," he winked.

Increase…they’d never talked about children but Travis wanted them being around Tee had awakened something in him something he wanted to give to his own child. He looked at Jan and seeing the love in her eyes…he felt ten feet tall today!
