Time Matters
It was 11:15 when Andy finally got to the flat he was really missing Lucy’s help in the kitchen for the dinner crowd. Tonight he’d had to wash all the dishes himself and get everything ready for breakfast. He was tired and walked into the kitchen for a beer. Lucy had left him a note attached to the fridge.
"Hi sweetie I love you."
He took his beer to the table and sat down seemed like the only communication they had anymore was a note. Their hours were so crazy with Lucy going in at 4:30 in the morning and him at 6:30. She was usually home by 7:00 right in the middle of his dinner crowd. It wasn’t so bad when they lived at the boarding house they could always find an hour or two to slip upstairs. Now he was coming home to a dark quiet flat with her asleep.
Andy looked at the fat folder laying on his desk…soon he was going to rectify some of this. It might take him a while until a good rhythm could be worked out in the kitchen but he aimed to have some time to spend with Lucy.
At this rate they wouldn’t even have time to get married. Toni had bought Lucy a dress he’d seen the white zippered bag hanging in the closet. He needed a suit…when was he going to have time to go buy a suit. Andy finished his beer and headed for the shower.
Wrapped in a towel he quietly opened the bedroom door to find Lucy propped up in bed asleep with a book across her lap. He eased the book away and she woke up enough to want to cuddle. Andy wanted something else.
"Ummm….Andy," she murmured
"You awake," he said against her ear.
"I am now…what time is it?"
"It doesn’t matter," he said and switched off the light
