Looks Like I’m Staying
Johnny didn’t much care for the gang boss who sent him into Coffs to apply for a construction job but he figured he could put up with anything for awhile until he could get his bearings. In the end he was hired and due to start the next day.
Back at The Glen he approached Andy who was doing a drawer change at the bar, "I’m back," he said needlessly
"I see ya are, another VB?"
"Sure…you said the rates were reasonable here…how reasonable?"
Andy looked him over, "you can handle it…need a room?"
"Yeah…I ain’t never stayed anywhere before…guess that sounds crazy."
"No probably lots of people haven’t had to stay anywhere, people that have their own place and don’t travel. You’re not unique you know."
"Feel like it sometimes. I got a job starting tomorrow with the construction gang down the street."
"Oh…that calls for another beer, this one’s on me mate…good onya." Andy smiled and set another can on the bar.
"So…how do you go about renting a room?"
Andy felt for the guy and he seemed a nice enough fella, "I’ll just tell Millie you’re here and she’ll take care of you…no worries mate and if you ain’t got the right change, she’ll work with you believe me I know."
"You, ah, you’ve been awfully nice Andy." He said. "Looks like I’m staying."
"I’ll be sure and tell everybody you said that, be cool." He said and took the drawer back through the kitchen, Steve would be in shortly to take over.
"Millie, there’s a kid out there needs a room…it’s his first time," Andy said, "he hasn’t stayed anywhere before…just thought you ought to know."
