The Perfect Place

Jeff was wrapped. He’d spoken to Bridgid and Ceri and they were both thrilled that he wanted to settle down in the new community. They showed him a plot of land that they thought would be ideal for him to build on, and were delighted in his response.

After he’d finished dancing for joy with both of them, he kissed them both on the cheek and jumped into his ute. He had an appointment in Coffs. He needed a local bank, and until Max had the new Glen bank up and running, Coffs was the best bet.

He had plenty of time to get there so decided to take the scenic route, driving through the little townships he’d found on the map. It was while he was driving through the second that he slammed on the brakes. Looking at the For Sale sign in front of the most beautiful little place he’d ever seen, he thought that he wanted a place like that in The Glen. Noting down the agents number, he carried on his journey to Coffs.

When he showed the manager the solicitor’s letter stating the total of his inheritance now that the house in Sydney was sold, he was treated with the utmost respect. Jeff laughed inside wondering what the manager would think if he knew that Jeff was an out of work plumber. It seemed to him that money could open most doors for him, but there was no way it was going to change the man he was.

It didn’t take too long for his account to be set up, and Jeff felt a little sorry for the manager, knowing that he would soon be transferring his account to Max’s bank. He stepped out into the summer sunshine and decided to stop for a smoothie before heading back to the boarding house. As he sat under the shade of a giant parasol he took out his phone and dialled the real estate agent... He was lucky as they agreed to show him around the house that afternoon, so he finished his drink and made his was back to the Ute.

He pulled up outside the little house and saw the agent waiting for him in the drive. It didn’t take too long for him to be shown round the place. The last room he was shown was the bathroom…it needed attention to say the least.

"I’m afraid that it needs complete renovation. We could adjust the asking price to compensate."

"That’s great, mate," Jeff replied, not letting on that he would be able to do the work himself should the plan he was hatching in his brain come to fruition. "Can we go back to your office and talk a little business?"

"Of course we can, Mr. Mitchell. I’ll lead the way."

Jeff jumped into the Ute and followed the agent back to his office. A couple of hours later he was on his way back to Steve and Millie’s with a broad grin on his face…
