"Under the Radar"
Alex Ross’ arrival in the Glen went pretty much unnoticed by the residents there; typical and just how he preferred to live his life – under the radar.
He’d heard about this little blip of a town from some locals down in Sydney – sounded like the perfect place to lose himself for a while. "Might even start over, meet a nice dame, set up house, who knows," he mused to himself, as he stretched his arms and stepped out of the dust-covered rental, which he’d parked behind a local garage.
Ross had managed to get a couple hours of shut eye there, waiting for the sun to come up. He’d passed an Inn earlier in the night... would head back there later, get a room, shower, bite to eat. Right now, he wanted to have a bit of a poke around, get the lay of the land, so to speak.
As he casually strolled through the town’s center, he found himself standing in front of a newspaper stand. Looking around, to make sure no one was watching, he jimmied the lock on it and pulled out a copy of the Glen Times. He grinned, tilted his head to one side, as he read the day’s headlines. "Hmm...so this is what serves as news in this little slice of life, huh?" he chuckled.
Just then, a couple walked by, deep in conversation. Ross pulled his fedora down over his eyes and slid back into the shadows, blending into the background as was his customary style. He wasn’t quite ready to mix with the locals just yet.
After they had passed by, Ross leaned his back against the wall and began to scan the paper again. Finding what he was looking for, he pulled out a pad and paper and quickly scribbled down the name, Cal McCaffrey, and the paper’s address listed under, then shoved them both back into his jacket pocket and headed over to Millie’s Inn.
