The Right Ingredients
Lucy hurried back to the boarding house after putting in her hours at the bakery. Finding Andy busy cooking she took a few minutes to clean up and donned an apron.
“Hi luv,” he said and gave her a quick kiss.
“Hey sweetie, what do I need to do first?”
“If you can get those potatoes peeled that would help.” Andy was cutting up chickens and wiped his forehead on his arm.
“Busy day?” He asked
“Yeah, but some good news too I may get some extra orders for the holidays.”
“When are you going to find time to do any extra’s Lucy?”
“Well let’s see there’s midnight till 8:00 in the mornings. I’ll get it done.”
“You don’t really have to help back here in the kitchen you know.”
“Yeah, but I just feel like I need to do something since Steve and Millie said I could stay with you.”
“Take orders and do the salads that should be enough it ain’t like you’re taking up extra space.” Andy thought about space, his room was stacked to the ceiling with plastic bins full of Lucy’s things. They really needed to find a place…just as soon as they had enough money.
“Well I’m going to use this kitchen to do the extras; I can’t ask at the bakery.”
“One of these days Lucy…it’s going to work out for us to get our own place.” Andy placed the chicken parts in a pan and set them aside going to the sink to clean his hands.
“I know, at least I found a job, you’ve got a job and we’ve got a place to stay. It’s a start anyway.”
Andy dried his hands and came up behind Lucy bending to kiss her on her neck. “You taste sweet.”
“Powdered sugar,” she grinned and turned catching a sweet kiss on the lips from Andy.
“Richie Roberts went ahead and paid me for the catering so when we get time to run to Sydney I can get my car back.”
“That’s good, maybe tomorrow between lunch and dinner?”
“What time will you get off?” asked Andy
“I have to go in early to decorate a cake so I should be able to get off around 2:00.”
“I’ll try and get a ride into Coffs somebody is always going that way that will save some time.”Time and money, thought Andy and a bit of luck.
