"The Invitation"
Colin opened the bedroom door and walked over to where Kate was still sleeping. As he quietly made his way across the room, she suddenly opened her eyes and sat up.
"Morning," she said, sleepily, then stretched her arms and let out a yawn.
"Sorry, Luv," Colin told her, "Didn’t mean to wake you." He sat down on the bed next to her and gave her a kiss.
"What’s that?" Kate asked, pointing to the small envelope Colin held in his hand.
"Not sure," he replied, turning it over in his hand and looking at the return address, "It’s addressed to us, though. Found it in the mailbox just now."
Kate smiled. "Our first letter…at our new home." She threw on one of Colin’s t-shirts and jumped up off of the bed. "Here, let me see that."
Kate snatched the envelope out of Colin’s hand and quickly opened it. "Oh, look," she said, smiling, "it’s an invitation to someone’s wedding….Tonia D. Stanley and Richard M. Roberts. Hmm…"
"Okay…," replied Colin, staring at the invitation, a confused look on his face. "…and just who the fuck are Tonia Stanley and Richard Roberts?"
"Umm…I was hoping you knew," Kate said, still reading the invitation.
Colin shook his head, "No one I know, Luv. Must be one of our new neighbors."
"Well, whoever they are, they’d apparently like us to attend their wedding. It’s being held at the Boarding House on the 20th at 4pm."
"Why the fuck would I want to get all dressed up just to go to the wedding of someone I don’t even know?" Colin chuckled.
Kate set the invitation down on the little side table next to the bed and wrapped her arms around Colin’s neck. "Because, darling, it’s a good way to meet our neighbors and…if you’re lucky… drum up some business for the garage."
Colin’s eyes perked up and a grin spread across his face. "Now why didn’t I think of that? Great idea, Luv," he said, then kissed her on the cheek. "I guess I can put up with the fancy attire for a couple of hours…if it helps the business."
"It’s settled then," Kate said, giving him a little squeeze. "I’ll call the number on the card and give them our R.S.V.P. now."
