Max Goes Shopping

by Atonia

Max finished his meeting with the bank officers and talked a secretary into giving him the lowdown on where to go shopping. Max was not a shopper, but he had a list and now places to go. Taking a taxi to the shopping area he got out and pulled out his phone to call Dee.

“Do you have any idea what time it is?” she asked sleepily.

“No I don’t, love, I’m in Perth about to go shopping for…” he ran off his list, “anything else you can think of?”

“Not right now,” she sat up in bed and turned on the light. “Why are you shopping in Perth?”

“Well it’s the closest place, Dee…it’s a little…no a lot different here, oh and listen make sure you bring warm weather clothes just ship the rest to the chateau. How’s the, ah close out going?”

“It’s going well, Max there’s only the bedroom furniture and a chair left, and that goes in a couple of days so I will be at a hotel.”

Max leaned against a building, “I wish you were here…I miss you, Dee.”

“I miss you too…it’s the longest time we’ve been apart it’s so empty here without you.”

“It’s empty for me too, I feel a little lost here…come soon, Dee.”

“Phone sex is a poor substitute, Max…I could try and get an earlier flight; actually I’ll be finished here at the end of the week. There’s no need for me to stay on, especially since the flat is all but gone…I’ll see what I can do.”

“Do that love, and now I’m off to buy a bed.”

“I can’t imagine you shopping,” Dee laughed trying to picture him with a list.

“Neither can I…but gosh, this is fun!”

“You’re not fooling me. I’ll let you get on with it…I love you, Max.”

“I love you more, ta for now.”

Max entered the store where he was assured he could find most anything he would need.

“A bed…and whatever it needs.” He said to the saleswoman.

Down to the last few items, he was in the house wares department. Shown an assortment of espresso machines he waved his hands, “Whichever is best…and wine glasses, I need wine glasses.”

“Do you have wine already, perhaps a favorite?”

“Actually I don’t…that’s something else I need…I don’t suppose you carry that here?”

“No, but I can point you to a good source and they will ship.”

“Excellent,” he smiled. Shopping wasn’t so hard when you had good help, he had no idea there would be people to find things for him. Once it became apparent the amount of money he was going to spend he had several people running all over the store bringing things for his approval. After he paid for the merchandise and shipping he went in search of the wine merchant and spent a considerable time wine tasting. He ended up ordering six crates of wine.

He had been advised to buy a deep freeze, and finding himself in an appliance store he once again found someone to help and to advise where to order food for the freezer.  Max had never seen a deep freeze before and was fascinated by the concept of freezing vast quantities of food. His house had a large basement on the shore side where he was contemplating storing the freezer along with the wine he’d bought.

Taking a taxi back to his hotel he began to think about what owning his own house meant. There would be no one to come clean it…food would not magically appear on the table…little things would go wrong he would have to find someone to fix them. He thought back to when he’d taken over the chateau, he only had to clean it out and paint. Everything was there one would need for everyday life. His house in Port Auckland was empty. How did one know what was needed until you needed it and it wasn’t there? He finally decided what he needed was Dee she would know exactly what to do. He settled back in the seat and smiled. He’d spent vast sums of money and had nothing in his hands to show for it but he was satisfied he’d done a days work.
