"A Visit From SID"
by: Stacey
Part 6
Terry and Jamie were parked just down the street from the huge, dark house, going over their plan of attack. Terry had it on good authority that this was indeed the location that SID was holding Stacey. He wouldn’t tell Jamie just how he came up with his intel – not that she hadn’t asked him repeatedly.
"I just know," he had told her, flatly, and left it at that. Though she was suspicious, she thought it best to just drop it and go along with whatever plan he had concocted. He was the K&R expert, afterall, and she knew she should trust his judgment – even if he was pissing her off by not sharing his information with her.
"We go in through the back door," Terry stated, pointing to a location on the blueprints he held in his hands, as Jamie shined a flashlight on them. "I’ll go first, in case SID knows we’re here, and is waiting for us."
"What should I be doing, then?" ask Jamie, thinking to herself that she wasn’t going to let him do all the work and leave her to play bystander the whole time.
Terry looked at her, grinned. "Hopefully, you’ll be right there behind me…backing me up and saving my ass if needed."
"Smart guy," chuckled Jamie, thinking to herself what a nice ass it was, too, then added, "Yeah, I can do that. I just hope that maniac hasn’t hurt Stacey…of HE might be the one that needs protecting!"
Terry nodded to Jamie, and then double checked his weapons. "Ready?" he asked.
"Yes, let’s do this," she replied, pulling out her handgun and stowing her handbag under the front seat.
Terry grabbed his duffle bag and they both got out of the car – careful not to make any noise as they did so. Quietly, they tiptoed around to the back of the house and crouched by the back door. The house was completely dark inside and all of the shades had been pulled down. Terry put his ear to the door. When he was sure that he couldn’t hear any voices from inside, he pulled out a small tool kit and quickly began to pick the lock. When he heard a click, he slowly turned the doorknob and opened the back door – just a bit, at first, then enough for Jamie and himself to crawl through.
Once inside the darkened kitchen, Terry motioned for Jamie to stay by the door while he had a quick look around the downstairs interior of the house. She wasn’t happy at being left behind, but did as she was told – keeping a sharp eye on the basement door as Terry stealthily searched the house.
A few minutes later, Terry was back. "They’re not downstairs," he whispered to Jamie. "I’d like to check the upstairs rooms now. You stay down here and make sure no one comes in."
Jamie stared at him, pissed that he would leave her alone again. "And what should I do if someone does walk in?" she asked, sarcastically.
"Whistle," he replied, and then darted off towards the stairway and out of sight.
"Whistle," Jamie said to herself. "Right…that maniac walks in here and I’m just supposed to pucker my lips and… whistle? What kind of idiot does he take me for, anyway?"
Just then, the back door flew open and a large, bulky figured lumbered into the dark room. Jamie jumped, and then began whistling as loudly as she could. The large figure came up behind her and slapped a huge hand over her mouth.
"Big mistake, Buster!" she thought to herself, and then clamped her teeth down hard into his skin – causing the man to yank his hand away.
"Shit! Motherfucker!" he tried to whispered, but it came out a bit louder than he had intended. "What the fuck did you bite me for?"
"I know that voice!" Jamie thought to herself, as she quickly moved toward the large man. "Bud, is that you?"
"Of course it’s me," Bud answered, still rubbing his hand.
"Oh my God, I’m so sorry!" she giggled, then added, "Let me see your hand."
"No, its fine," he snapped, pulling his hand away from her.
"What are you doing here, anyway?" Jamie asked him.
He glared at her. "I might ask you the same," he snapped.
"What the fuck do you think I’m doing here, Bud? Baking cookies?" she snapped back, clearly losing her patience with him. "God, he can be so annoying at times," she thought to herself. "I just don’t understand Stacey’s attraction to this big goon at all."
"Where’s Terry?" Bud asked, looking around the room. "He know you’re here?"
She glared at him a moment, then answered, "Of course he knows I’m here. He’s checking the upstairs."
"Good. I’ll go have a quick look in the basement, then," Bud told her, drawing his gun and checking the safety.
"Uh-uh," said Jamie, taking him by the arm, "You’re not going down there alone, Buster! Just wait here until Terry comes back down. He might need your help, anyway, if SID turns up."
Bud glared at her. He seriously didn’t like being told what to do – especially by her. Finally, he nodded in agreement and crept to the far side of the room to keep a look out.
Upstairs, Terry stealthily went from room to room, looking for any signs of the nanobot or Stacey. After he had searched every inch of the place, he made his way back downstairs, where he was surprised to see Bud looming about.
"Bud," he whispered, nodding to the big cop.
Bud nodded back to him, and then motioned towards the basement door. Terry nodded in agreement, and then the two men slowly and quietly opened the door and peeked inside.
Unfortunately, the stairwell was completely pitch black, so the two men weren’t able to see SID waiting there in the darkness for them.
