Andy Stirs the Pot

Andy walked outside, he was through in the kitchen for the day and he had a phone call to make. Things were not good with Lucy when he left and he wasn’t sure what to say to her. He walked around kicking up dust and leaned against the side of the building and smoked his cigarette. Lucy.

He finally pulled out his cell phone, “Lucy?”

“…Andy…Andy where are you?”

“I’m at The Glen, just a ways from Coffs…how are you?”

“I’m lonely Andy, I miss you.”

“Yeah…me too.”

“When are you coming back?”

“Em…I’ve got a job…I ain’t comin’ back to Sydney.”

“…so that’s it then.”

“I didn’t say that Lucy…I don’t…”

“You left Andy…I’ve been all over looking for you…I’ve called everybody you ever knew.”

“I’m sorry…sorry…I shouldn’t have…”

“I want to see you Andy.”

“I don’t have a car right now, it’s in the shop…I got no way to get there.”

“Can I come to you? I mean would you want me to…I don’t know what’s going on.”

“I don’t know what’s going on either…would you come…would you come to me?”

“Yes…give me a couple of days and tell me how to get there.”

Andy gave her directions, “Right so I’ll see you in a couple of days.”

“I’ll be there…Andy I love you.”

Andy dropped his arm down with the phone and looked up bringing the phone back to his ear, “yeah…me too, bye love.” He couldn’t say it ‘I love you’ because he wasn’t sure he did.

He went back inside and locked the kitchen door climbed the stairs to his room and lay down on his bed staring at the ceiling for a long time.
