Johnny Left Alone

The boarding house was quiet since everyone left for the wedding. Johnny lay back in the nest of pillows Amanda had left him in. He was well supplied with books, TV, CD’s and a tray with drinks and sandwiches. They would be leaving the boarding house in a few days and Johnny was looking forward to the move. He’d got past the feeling of a kept man simply because there was nothing he could do about it.

Amanda had taken over his car driving him to and from the doctor’s office and out to do the shopping for the two of them. He was beginning to think of them as a couple even though they had not so much as kissed. Come close a few times…he wondered what would happen when they were on their own without her Auntie next door.

Johnny kicked the comforter with his casted foot. Mentally he had kicked himself over and over again for that ill fated night in Coffs with the other blokes he knew better if anybody was going to come out of it broken it would be him. The only thing good to come out of it was Amanda. He smiled thinking how pretty she looked going to the wedding. He thought he might write his mother and let her know how he was getting on. He was in fact getting on quite well and it should get better after they moved from this upstairs bedroom. He hated it that Amanda had to sleep in the attic room and he here in her soft bed. She was so self sacrificing and giving and Johnny longed for the day he could give back in more ways than one.
