What! a Murder?
Amanda came running up the stairs sloshing water out of the jug she’d been down to the kitchen to fill for Johnny. The news she had couldn’t wait.
Knocking on her Auntie’s door and calling out to her at the same time.
Miss Peeg removed her glasses and put down her book and she opened her door, "Amanda whatever is the matter child?"
"Oh Auntie…something terrible has happened…there’s been a murder!"
"Murder…who?" she asked pulling Amanda through the door and shutting it behind her.
"A girl, Hando’s girl that professor found her…"
"What...sit down girl…Hando’s girlfriend Marce? Oh…oh dear…oh no." her hand went to her heart.
"Yes Auntie it’s so sad and the nice Professor Nash he’s all over upset, they’ve had to call doctor."
"Do they know…who killed her?"
"No not yet…but Auntie…they’re going to pick up Hando."
"Nonsense…he wouldn’t have killed that girl…he loved her." Miss Peeg’s was upset, she paced back and forth, "I wonder if Mr. Roberts knows about this?"
Miss Peeg called Richie Roberts, "Mr. Roberts I don’t know if you’ve heard…there’s been a murder."
Richie turned down his TV, "Miss Peeg did you say a murder?"
"Oh yes sir and its Hando’s girlfriend isn’t it and he’s going to be brought in for questioning isn’t he and Mr. Roberts…Hando would not have killed that girl."
"Hando…all right Miss Peeg, thanks for calling…I’ll go down to the police department…he’ll need council." Richie tossed the TV remote on the coffee table and hunted around under the sofa for his shoes.
"Toni," he called.
Toni was at the kitchen table making lists, "yes love what is it?"
"Lock the doors sweetheart, there’s been a murder in the Glen, I’m going down to the police department they’re bringing Hando in…it was his girlfriend."
"What…a murder and you’re leaving me here by myself?" Toni stood up.
Richie thought about that for a moment, okay I’ll drop you at the boarding house…and you’re to stay there until I come for you…got it?"
