Blinded by the Light
By Bridgid and M
Leaning into the front window of the sail shop to drop the ‘help wanted’ sign there, Bridgid was temporarily blinded by the flash of sunlight that bounded off of the diamond that Jack gave her. She blinked a few times and when she got her sight back she found herself staring into the most interesting set of brown eyes she’d ever seen.....
He was a tall man with an olive complexion and dark hair. He smiled and winked and winked at her causing heat to rise up to her cheeks..... Smiling shyly back at him she nearly stumbled backwards when he pursed his lips to kiss her way and she could hear him as he said "Bella"
"Oh my!" she said with a girly little giggle.
"Is all well, Siren?" Jack said from where he stood behind her.
"Oh yes, that man just …."
"I saw what happened, Bridgid."
Turning to face Jack, she shrugged. "I didn’t expect it."
"Does he appeal to you?"
The tone in his voice disturbed her. Of all things, Jack never needed to worry about her straying.
"He’s quite handsome, Jack. Does that bother you? I mean I'd never consider being with another man."
He eyed her as he concocted his response. "Bother me; by no means in fact I am quite flattered. It does not surprise me that other men find you beautiful and I am secure in my position with you."
"You're position with me?"
She did realize that it sounded worse than he meant it. Actually it kind of made her giggle. "What position is that?"
"Do I need to remind you of a certain canon Siren?" He said catching on quickly. "You really think he is handsome?"
"I do." she said but quickly clapped her hand over her mouth. "Oh that's right. I'm not supposed to say that to you yet. How's this, sailor. How could I forget the canon and yes I think that man was handsome but I will forget him in about thirty seconds. You however, I will remember for the rest of my life, by choice."
"Your choice is an excellent one, even though I say it myself."
Aubrey's right index finger reached under her chin to tilt her head before placing a soft kiss on her lips.
"Remember that madam, and all the ones gone before and those yet to come. Now, we have a business to run, we have made our first sale or should I say sail? Let us hope for many more."
His kisses always had an intoxicating effect on her and she swooned a bit. "Maybe we should christen out new business, in a proper way..."
"What do you deem as proper Siren? We could take a glass of port at the end of the day, we could count our cold cash or we could close for luncheon and stock take." Aubrey liked the idea of taking stock and his idea had nothing to do with counting sails.
Without saying a word, she pulled her shirt over her head but then she stopped fast. "Oh my gosh!"
Scurrying over to the front door, she locked it then she quickly pulled the shades down. "We are officially closed for lunch, sailor. Now you get it?"
Aubrey drank in the sight of her and there was no way to disguise how she made him feel. She was his Siren, the one woman who made him feel alive as much as the sea did. He adored her total abandonment with him, she broke every rule and yet she didn't necessarily mean to and that, for him, was the joy of her.
His Siren, his Madam, his Bridgid, his love. Together they would make the sail shop work but for today, it was not business as usual, it was climb the mast and head for home.
Tomorrow was another day.
