Money, Money, Money…
"Well, I think it’s a good idea."
"I didn’t say it was a bad idea, Max. I just asked if you had any experience in banking, that’s all," Ceri replied.
"How many years did I work in the City, darling? I think that I should be competent enough to run a country bank. I’ve got some contacts in Sydney I can speak to. They can advise whether it’s better to be completely independent or become a rural branch of a bigger concern."
"I guess it would make things easier for everyone not having to drive over to Coff’s every time they need some ready cash. I guess I just don’t want you off working every day. Selfish, I know."
"Ceri, just how big to you imagine The Glen is going to get? It’s likely to only need a part time bank, probably a couple of hours a day, or a couple of full days a week. It will be good to do something useful for a change."
Ceri went over to Max and hugged him tight. She knew that he felt the latter part of his years in the City had been a complete waste of time, and that he was doing nothing for anyone but himself. His time in France had certainly changed him for the better, and now he wanted to use some of his vast wealth to help their new little community. She liked the idea of a few days in Sydney as well, and began to think of ways to persuade him to let her tag along for the ride.
"There’s just one problem, Ceri. I might need to be in Sydney over Christmas, so I was thinking we could make a family trip out of it and invite Bron and Ed along too."
"Oh, Max. Here I was plotting to get you to let me come. It will be great to have some family time together. I’m sure Ed will be up to it, don’t you?"
"He’s getting better every day, my sweet, and he won’t have to do anything. I’ll drive us to the airport at Coff’s and we’ll get a charter flight down the coast. I’ll book us into the Park Hyatt, and if he’s still a bit wobbly, I’ll get him a chair."
"Don’t you dare, he’ll hate that. I think we’ll find things for him to do without too much walking around. It will do them both good; Bron’s been looking a bit tired lately. I can’t wait to give them both the news."
