A Bright New Day
Bron woke with a start. Where was she? What time was it? Where was Ed? And what on earth was that noise? There was a bird singing somewhere close by. She could only describe it as a melodious warble. She’d never heard anything like it before. She turned to see Ed, deeply asleep, beside her, and rose to draw back the curtains.
The view before her reminded her of where they were. The tree branches danced gracefully in the slight breeze, and the water rippled on the lake…The Glen…they really were here. She thought she’d been dreaming. Turning away from the window she walked back to the bed and kissed Ed on the temple. He stirred slightly but didn’t wake. Bron headed for the kitchen.
"What on earth are we going to have for brekkie?" she asked herself out loud. Opening the fridge, expecting to see an empty void, she was amazed to see it overflowing with everything she could possibly need. Stepping back in amazement, she remembered to close the door before exploring each unit in turn before opening a narrow door. Switching on the light inside, she gasped. It was a walk in pantry, and once again the shelves were packed solid with dry and canned goods.
"Ceridwen Rees, you’re the best sister a girl could ask for." She sighed, realising that her sister was the only one who would have known just what supplies Bron would have bought herself. Sitting at the beautiful oak breakfast table while waiting for the coffee machine to work its magic she smiled. She and Ed had been too tired to explore their new home when they arrived and had only managed a quick shower in their on suite bathroom before collapsing into bed, and oblivion.
Getting up and walking to the back door, she opened it to enjoy the morning breeze. There was a newspaper on the step and a covered basket beside it. She picked them both up and carried them inside. Glancing at the paper she noticed the date. She couldn’t believe it…she and Ed had been asleep for more than 24 hours!! Ah well, they must have needed it.
Opening the covered basket she saw a card on top of some fresh blueberry muffins…Ed’s favourite. Opening the card she smiled at the scrawled note inside.
Welcome to your new home, sis. When you’re both feeling up to it, give me a buzz and we’ll come down for a visit.
Luv ya heeps
Ceri and Max xx
Bron placed the muffins on a breakfast tray along with the coffee and headed back to the bedroom. Ed was struggling to sit up as she entered, so she put the tray down and helped him. Placing the tray on the bed, she climbed back in beside him and handed him the plate containing the still warm muffin. Raising an eyebrow in question, Ed looked from her to the muffin and back.
"It’s a welcome gift from Ceri. She makes the best blueberry muffins in the world."
Ed smiled as he took a bite, savouring the fluffy light texture. Leaning over to kiss Bron he smiled, "I think we’re gonna like it here, honey."
