Passport to a New Life
Dear Toni,
Only last week I was Ivy Van Der Brecken, a single unemployed historian with an expiring lease on an overpriced New Jersey apartment.
Now I am transformed.
I'm Mrs. James J. Braddock.
The sound of it sends shivers down my spine. Our ceremony was at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum (Whippany, NJ) in the same rose garden where Jim first kissed me. It was small but simple and it is blessed twice over since both Pastor Van Der Nald and Father Dolan presided representing the Dutch Reformed and Catholic Churches respectively.
Jim looked amazing in his suit. What can I say he cleans up good. He has a smile that lights up the room and I know it is just for me. The man loves the same way he boxes; with everything he has. I can hardly wait for you to meet him or to see your new house. I’m sure it is a far cry from that apartment we shared in Jersey City.
The passport office called earlier today and our expedited passports are ready to be picked up. Now everything is in place for our Honeymoon. It seems like so much has changed. I feel like I am starting a whole new life. Actually I guess I am starting a new life. Thanks to Jim that is. Here I am rambling and making no sense. I’ll see you soon and we’ll catch up then.
Missing you,
Ivy Braddock
