"Girl Trouble"
Colin watched as Abby got out of his car and headed into the boarding house.
"Sure do know how to pick ‘em, don’t ya, Mate?" he sighed to himself, as he put the car into gear and headed back home.
Earlier that evening, he’d planned what he thought was a romantic evening for the two of them. He’d arranged for Andy to cook up a delicious dinner, Lucy bake up one of her famous sweets, and even had Arthur hand deliver it. Things had been going smooth, or so he thought. He’d had a ripper of a time, eating, chatting, and laughing together. Then they’d moved to the couch, started kissing... that’s when things seemed to be going really well, and he’d carried Abby up to the bedroom.
"Bloody fool I was," he huffed out loud to himself, as he pulled the car up to his house and stormed inside, slamming the front door behind him.
After stomping up the stairs to his bedroom, Colin quickly undressed, dropping his clothes on the floor and leaving them where they fell, then climbed into bed.
Unable to sleep, he lit up a ciggie and lay there thinking about what Abby had told him.
"Married," he thought, as he exhaled a puff of smoke. "Who could have seen that coming?! Bloody hell. You’d think she woulda told before she let me get her into my bed."
Just then, his phone rang... once, twice... three times. He looked at the caller ID... it was her. Colin picked up the receiver and then hung it back up. No way in hell he wanted to talk to her after what had happened. Not yet, anyway.
After one last puff, he put out his cigarette, turned out the light – laying there in the dark until finally drifting off to sleep in the wee hours of the morning.
