CATERING TO ANDY
“Andy, have you got a minute?” asked Toni as he set her club sandwich and tea in
front of her.
“Sure, what is it?” he sat down across from her
“You know Richie and I are getting married in about four weeks, I’m looking for
a caterer and here’s the list of food I made up, we’re inviting the whole
community so I’m thinking some pretty hardy fare that way there won’t have to be
seconds and thirds you know what I mean?”
Andy looked over the list, “you want me to do this?” he asked, “well there’s
some fancies on here I don’t do…I know somebody who can,” he said quietly.
“Can I leave it with you Andy? If you can think of anything else to add or
change just do it.” Toni bit her lip looking over at him.
“Um it’s basically a meal, yeah I can do it I’ll check with Steve and Millie to
make sure I can use the kitchen.”
“If that’s a problem let me know soon okay? Just figure it all out and name me a
price, I trust you and at this point I’m not goin’ to argue over a few quid.”
Andy did a quick calculation in his head of the menu she gave him, might just be
enough to get his car out of the garage back in Sydney. “Right I’ll check around
and give you a call…hey thanks…thanks for the confidence.” He smiled.
Andy stuffed the list in his pocket and walked back to the kitchen. What a
stroke of luck he needed some extra money after talking to the garage about his
car. He stopped and thought about Lucy and knew he needed to give her a call.
He’d been thinking a lot about her since he got to The Glen. Well this way he’d
have a reason to call her…if she’d talk to him.
He stepped around the center island, “Hey you little ankle biter whatcha doin’
in here?” squatting down to eye level with Brooklyn who was in a walker. He
looked around for Millie but didn’t see her, “are you lost, looking for
something to eat?”
Brooklyn smiled and offered him her binky. Her little feet barely touched the
floor but enough to get some forward motion going when she wanted to go
somewhere and she liked going where Andy was. She smiled again fetchingly and of
course Andy picked her up out of the contraption and carried her around on his
hip discussing the evening menu and the state of the grill.
